Aerosols
Aerosols allow for a consistant dosage of product without mixing or measuring.

The aerosol industry has had a bad reputation of late! They’ve been misunderstood and have had questionable public relations in recent years. Some of the criticism was justified, but the industry has changed. Today, highly effective, environmentally safe products are available that fulfill important needs.

Maintex offers a complete line of environmentally safe aerosol products from cleaners, polishes and air fresheners to industrial lubricants. The benefits of aerosols are:

  • No chemical mixing
  • Consistent dosage
  • Easy transport
  • Safety
  • Increased productivity

Here is how aerosols work. Aerosols contain several essential components; the liquid product, the propellant, the valve and the actuator. The product is delivered in the form of a spray with varying size droplets (depending on the function). For example, furniture polish utilizes larger droplets while air fresheners disperse very small droplets.

Harmful CFCs have been replaced with safe, environmentally-friendly propellants.

The aerosol product is pushed through the can by the propellant pressure until it reaches the actuator and then is released as a spray. The liquid is converted to a spray by the valve specification, the actuator specification and the type and amount of propellant.

Propellants can be liquefied or compressed gases. They are the key element in the formulation. Typical aerosol propellants are LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), Di Methyl Ether and Carbon Dioxide.

In 1987, seventy nations signed the Montreal Protocol which set target dates for significant reductions in the use of CFC’s (chlorine containing propellants) which had previously been a common propellant for aerosols. CFC’s had been found to break down in the stratosphere under the influence of ultra violet light and act as a catalyst in the destruction of the ozone. By 2000 these chemicals were phased out of use. Today no cleaning chemical products use CFC’s as propellants.

Maintex aerosols include highly effective glass cleaner, furniture polish, stainless steel polish, disinfectants, dust mop treatment, air fresheners, carpet and upholstery spotters, chewing gum remover, oven cleaner and graffiti remover. All of these aerosol items provide convenient cleaning supplies.
